The Merchandise is getting more creative than the Content
Ever since the price of dslr’s dropped below the $1000 mark, there has a been a proliferation of camera related accessories on the market. All this is hunky dory - but the problem is that new users or people who’ve switched from shooting compacts have been sucked into an equipment/accessory gathering ecosystem instead of learning and experimenting with what they have. Many of the top photographers have blogged about this in way more detail (Chase Jarvis , David Duchemin etc) but I just had to share some of the silly things that are out there in the market - enjoy! :
1. Cloak Bag [$50]
what is it : “The world’s first shoot-through camera bag that allows a user with a DSLR or SLR camera to take photos without removing the camera from the safety of the bag. It’s the perfect fit for travelers or any photographer who has missed a shot simply because the camera was left in the bag.”
who is it for : lazy people who cant be bothered to take the camera out of the bag
2. The Shootsac [$175]
what is it : “the fastest changing lens bag” with three neoprene slots to store lenses. really ? whats wrong with either a backpag or a messenger bag ?
ok - maybe this makes peoples life easier - but all I want to say is don’t forget about the most important thing - the picture. If you really want to improve your craft - spend the money on books/courses or a roadtrip
